Ways to Give
SUPPORT AATF
Racial disparity is a real problem in our local schools, and African American Teaching Fellows needs your help. The most important factor in determining how many Fellows we can support is the amount of money the community invests in our program. Your donation helps us recruit, support, and, develop new teachers. Because of you, the children of Charlottesville and Albemarle County will receive diverse mentorship, experience cross-cultural collaboration, and prepare to become tomorrow’s global leaders.
For all the students in our local schools and from all of us working hard for change: thank you

Stipends and Support – $3,674
We provide stipends of up to $6,000 per Fellow annually to support in-service educators in our local public schools. Fellows may use the stipend at their discretion to reduce financial stress, enhance quality of life, or invest in opportunities that help them stay and thrive in the teaching profession. Our goal is to alleviate financial burdens so Fellows can focus on impact and leadership.
Professional Development – $2,227.92
Through our flagship program, the Teacher-Leader Institute, we offer year-round professional learning and leadership development. Fellows participate in quarterly workshops, one-on-one coaching, and tailored sessions that affirm their educator identity and foster instructional excellence. This community-centered approach equips Fellows with tools to lead and grow throughout their careers.
Community Building and Retention – $2,148.50
We recognize that thriving as an educator requires more than support in the classroom, and it also means feeling connected and seen. Our retention efforts include hosting social events, small-group gatherings, and local engagement opportunities that build community and reduce isolation. We also facilitate cohort-based programming that allows Fellows to learn from and with one another.
Outreach and Engagement – $928.56
While our program no longer supports pre-service college students, we remain committed to cultivating a pipeline of future educators. We maintain strategic relationships with local colleges, teaching assistants, and school divisions through outreach efforts, information sessions, and events. This helps us stay connected to potential future Fellows and amplify our mission.
Administrative Costs – $1,020.46
These funds cover essential operating expenses, including rent, insurance, personnel, utilities, technology, and memberships. This ensures our organization can run effectively and continue to serve teachers with excellence.
